Water Sampling / Testing

It is important that water quality in a premise is monitored to protect the health of people using the water services in the building. Water testing may help identify areas where control has failed or needs to be improved where adverse samples are detected.

H2O Solutions provide tailored sampling programmes for our clients according to their requirements. Sampling for legionella, Total Viable Counts, E.Coli, and Total Coliforms are carried out in most buildings to monitor water quality and ensure corrective actions are taken if adverse test results are detected.

  • E.Coli
Occurs in the faeces of all mammals and is regarded as the primary indicator of faecal contamination.
  • Coliforms
Indicator for the presence of faecal contamination.  There are, however, Coliforms that are present in soil and other environmental materials which can grow in water.
The E.Coli and Coliform tests are used as indicator bacteria as a means of assessing the potential presence of water borne pathogens.  E.Coli is regarded as the best biological indicator for drinking water and public health protection.  Water borne pathogens include Campylobactor.  E.Coli 0157, Salmonella and Shigella.  These can cause gastrointestinal illnesses and can be potentially fatal.
  • TVCs
Total Viable Counts.  These are counts of the general bacteria present in the water sample.
An important benefit of determining colony counts is the data generated can indicate a significant change in numbers over a period of time which may highlight a deterioration in water quality.
  • Legionella
Legionella bacteria can cause flu-like symptoms in people, which it infects.
Legionellosis (any illness caused by exposure to legionella) is normally contracted by inhaling legionella bacteria in tiny droplets of water contaminated with the bacteria deep into the lungs.  Infection with legionella bacteria can be fatal in approximately 12% of reported cases.  Aerosols can be produced from high-pressure taps, showers, water features with a fountain, cooling tower systems, spas, whirlpool baths, humidifiers, and air washers.  Proper treatment, control, and monitoring can control or prevent the risk of exposure to legionella.
Temperature checks are carried out at the same time as sampling and are included on test reports so the operating temperature of the water system can be assessed to see if conditions are favourable for bacterial growth.

Activ-Ox

H2O Solutions also supply and install Activ-Ox chlorine dioxide dosing units. Activ-Ox is a system which is simpler, safer, and more cost effective than other means of generating chlorine dioxide. Check out the video below to learn more:
